Root canal treatment
Specialized care to remove infection from inside the tooth, relieve pain, and help you keep your natural tooth.
Understanding treatment
What is root canal treatment?
A root canal treats inflamed or infected tissue inside a tooth. The tooth is carefully opened, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and the space is filled and sealed. A restoration from your general dentist may be needed afterward to protect the tooth.
Why see an endodontist?
Endodontists are dentists with advanced training focused on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canal treatment and related procedures.
When treatment may be recommended
- Persistent or severe tooth pain
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
- Tenderness when chewing or touching the tooth
- Swelling, drainage, or signs of infection
- Injury, deep decay, or a crack affecting the tooth
What to expect
